Insanity is apparently ‘Doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.’
Like this subscribe button. It does the same thing every time. Have a go.
But nope… practice is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.
And then getting them. Ask anyone who goes to the gym. Or is getting better at chess by playing chess. Or practises a skill.
So Einstein, if we believe he actually said the quote, was right, but in a limited context. And he was wrong for the majority of the contexts we spend our lives in.
Our bodies and brains adapt to the use they get. Insanity is doing something once and expecting results.
And then there is Trust…
Acting in a way that builds trust needs to be done continually. You keep doing the same things WANTING to keep getting the same results. If you do the things that build trust, you expect to have trust.
If you stop, or act in a untrustworthy way then you can end up back at square zero.
But this time you can’t just do exactly the same thing again and expect the same result. Relationships are path dependent, and your behaviour will be remembered. Next time people won’t be so trusting.
So what’s this post about.
Sometimes doing the same thing gets the same result. Science.
Sometimes doing the same thing gets progress. Like exercise.
Sometimes doing the same thing gets the same result. Like Trust.
Until you lose trust. Then doing the same thing doesn’t get the same result anymore.
